When the blade doesnt't feeling smooth anymore, grind the stone in slightly higher angle, as you were carving shavings off the steel. This grinds the threads away which can be safed by honing the blade as  you would hone a scythe. But if you use this method, the blade have to be sharpened more often.

Remember to moisten the whetstone with water before using.
