Wästikivi Whetstones Big Stone in curly birch box
Longer Wästikivi's Home Stone's in beautiful curly birch box. Size of stone 200 x 30 x 10 mm, size of box 230 x 55 x 30 mm.
Length approx. 20 cm, narrow tip is suitable for wielding.
You get a firm grip of the stone for sharpening scissors and knives. Wästikivi Home Stone is also sufficiently large for long knives, sickles and axes.

I have never really felt compelled to write a product review before, but my experience with Wastikivi stones has been great, and wish to pass on some things to other English speakers that live no where near Finland.
At this point, I now own the Big Stone in Birch Box, a Axe Puck, Scout Stone, and Backwoods Stone, and they have all served there purpose well.
If you are looking for a stone that can cover the job of 3 different stones then these are the ones to look at. By resting 1 end in a surface at a angle and apply some force, I have been able to to rebevel a very damaged Opinel, and then sharpen it to very fine level, by decreasing the pressure as the slurry starts to build up. Finishing the edge with only the weight of the blade and a built up slurry.
With the use of another Wastikivi as a slurry stone, or a fine grit diamond plate, you can make a even finer edge by using a thick, opaque slurry(like using a coticule, but backwards). I would not call the edge that comes out of it a polished edge, but it leaves a very fine edge that rivals many multi stone systems.
The best part about these stones is that you can reduce the burr to almost nothing but pulling your knife parallel with the edge while holding the knife at a slightly steeper angle. This does require some practice, so I would recommend trying it with a knife you do not care about. I have then followed up with a quick strop and been able to produce a hair shaving edge. This is makes a more then sharp enough edge for any day-to-day and outdoor task.
I often maintain my greenwood carving tools this way untill I have couple items done, then I polish the edges with a coticule for the finishing cuts. I would definitely recommend Wastikivi stones for "honing" stage when sharpening fine wood working tools and straight razors. So far they have worked well on tools made out of 52100, O1, Sliversteel, and 1095.

Gekauft habe ich hier einen Schleifstein in einem kleinen Holzkästchen aus Maserbirke, anderenorts auch karelische Birke genannt.
Einen Schleifstein von diesem Hersteller besaß ich bereits vorher und war damit äußerst zufrieden. Für meine kleinen und mittleren Messer hat nun dieser Schleifstein die ideale Größe.
Er ist ohne Risse und Unebenheiten, schlicht gesagt perfekt. Das Holzkästchen zur Aufbewahrung des Schleifsteins jedoch ist aufgrund seiner Maserung ein Kleinod. Der Deckel passt saugend auf den Fuß, hier klappert nichts.
Da ich ein Perfektionist bin, habe ich dem Kästchen im Endgang mit Schleifpapier der Körnung 2000 unter Verwendung von Leinöl eine perfekte samtige Oberfläche verliehen, auf der die Maserung eine wunderbare Tiefe erhalten hat. Für mich muss Arbeiten auch Spaß machen, deshalb der von mir getriebene Aufwand. Es hat sich gelohnt, denn es ist eine Freude, das Kästchen in die Hand zu nehmen. So soll es sein. Dem Händler gebe ich uneingeschränkt fünf Sterne und empfehle ihn weiter.
